Upgrading & renewal

Upgrading is instant and backward-safe; renewal is automatic with a paper trail. This is the whole lifecycle of a subscription, minus the surprise fees.

Upgrading

  1. Dashboard → Billing shows your current plan and the upgrade path.
  2. Choose the tier and the billing cycle — monthly, quarterly or semestral (longer cycles carry discounts set by the platform; the page shows the current numbers).
  3. Pay through the provider flow (see Invoices & payment methods).
  4. The new plan's features and limits apply immediately: the domain control unlocks, AI meters reset to the higher quota, gates lift.

Nothing about your content changes on upgrade — no migration, no re-publish. Limits only ever move in your favor.

Auto-renewal

Subscriptions renew automatically at period end by default:

WhenWhat happens
Period end − reminderRenewal notice; cancel any time before
Period endThe renewal payment runs; a new invoice is recorded
Renewal failsStatus → past_due; the grace clock starts (see Grace period & locking)

Auto-renewal is a toggle — turn it off and the plan simply ends at period end, gracefully, with everything intact until you say otherwise.

Changing plans

  • Upgrade mid-cycle — you get the new tier now; the payment page shows the math.
  • Downgrade — takes effect so your paid features do not vanish mid-use: the change applies at the period boundary, and the dashboard says exactly when. Over-limit content (say, more posts than the lower plan allows) is archived-but-alive, never deleted — see Grace period & locking for the full mechanics.

Canceling

Canceling stops FUTURE renewals; it is not a content bomb. The plan runs to period end (you paid for it), then the account settles onto the Free tier with content intact and over-limit features archived. See Grace period & locking for what the transition looks like and Deleting content if what you actually want is for things to be GONE.

Tip

Before a renewal you are unsure about, open Dashboard → Billing and look at the meters: if you are under every limit and use no gated feature, the honest answer might be Free — and the downgrade path is designed exactly for that.

The receipt trail

Every payment writes an invoice with a number, plan, cycle and status — visible in the billing page history (see Invoices & payment methods). Failed renewals are marked failed, never silently retried into mystery charges.

Note

The billing pages stay reachable even when a subscription has lapsed into locking — managing your money is never locked out. That is a deliberate design line: access can pause; control cannot.
