AI in the chatbot

The chatbot is the AI your visitors meet: a small widget on your public site that answers questions from your content — live, any hour, grounded in what you actually published.

Turning it on

  1. Dashboard → AI → Chatbot.
  2. Enable it for the site (the plan gate is honest — the toggle shows when your plan includes it; see Plans compared).
  3. Write the welcome message and 3–5 suggested questions — the chips visitors tap first. Pick questions your content answers WELL; the first answer colors the visitor's trust in the next three.
  4. Pick the accent color (defaults to your theme).

The widget renders closed by default — visitors open it; it never interrupts a visit.

What it knows — grounding

The chatbot answers from your published content (pages, posts, services, events) and the platform docs, retrieved live per question, best matches first. Consequences worth knowing:

  • Unpublished drafts are invisible to it — publish before the chatbot can quote you.
  • Thin content, thin answers — a site with two paragraphs gets a chatbot with two paragraphs of wisdom. The cheapest chatbot upgrade is a better FAQ page.
  • It says "I don't know" rather than inventing, and offers the escalation path when a question needs a human.

The escalation path

When a question exceeds its grounding, the chatbot hands off to a support ticket — the visitor's question arrives in your dashboard with the conversation context (see Support tickets). The chatbot is the front line, not the whole army: it clears the repetitive 80% so the tickets that reach you deserve a human.

Tuning it after launch

  1. Read the transcript in the dashboard weekly — the questions visitors actually ask are free audience research.
  2. When the bot answers poorly, improve the CONTENT it reads (add the missing page, sharpen the service description), not just the bot.
  3. Retire suggested questions nobody taps; add the ones the transcript keeps hearing.

Tip

Ask it the awkward ones yourself: "How much do you charge?", "Do you work with beginners?", "What is your refund policy?" Every answer you dislike is a page you should write — the chatbot is the honest mirror of your content.

What it will never do

  • Publish, edit or delete anything on your site.
  • See visitor identities — the conversation is what it has.
  • Answer from other sites or general browsing; it is grounded, not a search engine.

Note

Privacy, quotas and model choice are covered in Privacy & limits — including the short version: your content grounds YOUR conversations and is not used to train models.
