Site visibility & SEO
SEO on a personal site is mostly three things done consistently: pages that say clearly what they are, fields filled where search engines look, and content worth surfacing. LinkMe handles the plumbing — this guide is the map and the checklist.
What the platform does for you
- Per-page SEO fields — posts and pages carry their own SEO title and description; they override defaults in search results and share cards.
- Share cards (Open Graph) — links unfurl with a title, description and image: cover image first, then the page's first image, then a branded default.
- Sitemap — a sitemap is served so crawlers can find everything published.
- Clean URLs and fast pages — stable slugs, server-rendered pages, HTTPS everywhere (see SSL & HTTPS).
- No cookie banners needed — analytics are cookieless and first-party, so consent clutter never stands between visitors and content.
The fields that matter, per page
| Field | Where | Rule of thumb |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Post/page settings | Say the thing: "Wedding photographer in Addis", not "Home" |
| Description | Post/page settings | One honest sentence a searcher would click |
| Excerpt | Blog posts | Two sentences; it IS the search snippet material |
| Slug | At creation | Short, lowercase, hyphenated, never changed twice |
| Cover image | Posts, pages | Sets the share card; landscape crops best |
The visibility checklist
- Titles that name the thing — every page and post title should survive being read alone in a tab strip.
- One topic per page — search engines reward clarity more than volume.
- Publish consistently — a blog updated monthly outranks a brilliant site abandoned in 2023 (see Blog).
- Get the address out — links from your social profiles, directories and friends are the oldest ranking signal that still works (see Publish & share).
- Give it time, honestly — new domains take weeks to months to settle; the free address carries platform domain history, which helps.
Tip
Search one query you WANT to win, once a month, in a private window. If you are not on the map, read who is: their title and description will tell you what searchers actually want. Adjust one field, publish, wait. SEO is gardening, not hacking.
Visibility controls
| State | Search engines | Visitors with the link |
|---|---|---|
| Published | Indexable | Full access |
| Draft | Nothing to index | Not found |
| Password-gated | Not indexed (plan permitting) | Password prompt |
Unpublished content is invisible by construction — nothing leaks.
What is NOT on the menu
No meta-keyword stuffing (search engines ignored that a decade ago), no shady backlink trades, no hiding text. The platform's job is honest plumbing; the ranking strategy that works on personal sites has not changed in years: say the thing clearly, keep saying it, make it worth linking.
Note
Changed a title and want search to catch up? It will — on its schedule, not yours. Resubmission tools are not needed; the sitemap and steady publishing do the talking. Patience is an SEO tool.
